Welcoming Communities: Skilled Trades Expo

Every year, our Welcoming Communities (Newcomer Services) program hosts a Skilled Trades Expo for over 150 secondary students.

The Passport to Career Success event gives new Canadians an opportunity to experience hands-on activities and hear from professionals in the construction sector and other skilled trades.

Students roll up their sleeves, sharpened their creative skills, and discuss continuing education and career paths.

By helping students learn about careers in the skilled trades, we create opportunities for a better future and easier settlement into Canadian society.

Huge thank you to our partners and skilled professionals who participated in this years event:

TDSB Newcomer Services – Welcoming Communities is a structured mentorship program for new Canadian students in TDSB elementary schools, middle schools and secondary schools.

Working alongside our program staff, and a peer helper, newcomer students participate in a variety of group activities designed to help ease some of the transitional challenges faced when settling into Canadian culture.

Activities may include: homework clubs, English conversation circles, sports and recreational activities, table tennis lessons, a reading buddy program, steel pan drums lessons, field trips, and a culturally-based culinary program.
