Dear Ms. Pallavi

I am writing to express my gratitude to TDSB for offering the ELT IT program and for having Susan A. as the instructor of the class.  Thank you so much!

At the beginning, I was not confident of the real outcome and not knowing what it will turn out to be; today, I am so grateful for this training.

In the class, I was made aware and developed the courteous way of communicating.   Now I know when not use (WANT, CAN, TOLD) when making requests or expressing concerns.  For instance, prior to the class, after reading a customer care reply letter, I found it normal. After the lesson, the letter suddenly became so rude.

I would also like to mention that the mock interview video was very valuable. It was any eye opener to see ourselves performing.  I have appreciated the possibility to review the interview in class and to have comments from my classmates too.  I have learned from my mistakes.

Because this training was so important to me, I have postponed my interviews to either after the 8 weeks are finished or after the class hours.  I did not want to miss even a second; this lead me to a perfect attendance: No delays, no absences.

Now I feel more confident and more equipped to face Canadian society and the workplace challenges. Being courteous is not for the workplace only, it is for everywhere. What I have gotten through this training means more than diamonds to me and I will always be grateful.

Thank you again to Susan A., my instructor, for the lessons, the patience, and most of all her kindness. Thank you to Jermain H., my job developer, for his patience and understanding.  Thank you to the sector specific instructor Mr. Khalid D. who encouraged, advised and challenged us every Friday until the end. Thank you to all the ELT staff and management.

Thank you so much for this opportunity.

Sincerely yours,

Karly K.

Took my ‘NEXT STEP’… Got my first job in Canada!!!

Like all newcomers, ‘getting a job’ was my top priority and therefore, I wasted no time in starting my job search. I created profiles in all leading job sites and applied for 100s of jobs online. Unfortunately, I got very few interview calls and was not able to move past the initial screening phase. My future looked bleak and I started to doubt in my abilities, qualifications and experience.

Then, I went to Next-Steps Employment Centre at Mississauga and got enrolled in their employment services. They contacted various employers on my behalf and by working closely with their job counselor, I got an interview call from a leading manufacturing company and finally, I was able to find a job in my field of interest.

I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the ‘Next-Steps Employment Centre’ for helping me to find my first job in Canada.

Hello Sonia,

I’d like to wish Happy New Year and all the best for 2018 to you, your superb staff, and your excellent centre.

SCEA at 3478 Lawrence Avenue is the best centre I have visited. I went to learn MS courses at different centres, but none were is close to yours.

You have excellent, knowledgeable, professional, and patient instructors, I really love them.

I brought my son, Mohsin who is a law student at University of New Brunswick, Fredericton last summer to attend a MS Word because I noticed that he was taking a long time in completing his essays and other assignments. He attended the two-day course with Pedro and was very happy with the way he showed him the proper ways to work on MS Word. My son was so impressed by Pedro that he took MS Excel too. I am glad that I brought him to your centre because he learned a lot .

Please pass my best regards and best wishes to your friendly staff; you are very lucky to have such a nice team and I am lucky to have discovered this fantastic centre.

Yours Sincerely,

Najib W.

On November 22, 2017 hundreds of TDSB LINC Program newcomers visited the TIFF Bell Lightbox to participate in REEL CANADA‘s yearly ‘Welcome to Canada’ programme.

This yearly event is one of many opportunities embraced by the LINC program to allow learners to practice English outside of the classrooms.

Here is a short video highlighting the event including a few LINC Learners sharing their experience.
